Nea Kios is a city at the northen Argolic Gulf, west of Nafplion and south of Argos. The coast is located between the banks of two ancient rivers Erasinos and Inachus. The rivers and the road connecting to Argos, form 4 separate areas, the territories of the city, the beach and the agricultural and industrial activities are visible on these areas. Though, the city was founded in 1927 (by refuges after the 1923 population exchange between Greece and Turkey) many myths surround the site and especially the two rivers. The stories contain many natural phenomena through history and the interaction between people, the land and significantly the water. The research focuses on the evolution of the landscape through understanding and explaining the truth behind the tales and todays connection to them.

Τhe Myth of H2O | Oasis Simulate Heterotopias

The water is very important for Nea Kios. Not only for the everyday survival of the life of Argolis, but also as it contains the history and the stories of past hardship, creation, and restoration. In a land that overlapping and opposing territorial usage thrives, on very organized spatial divisions, the idea is one of contradiction. While exploiting these different areas of land and utilizing the water as a mirror, it reflects and reverses the use. So, the expansion of the city, will be organized and resolved in the future on these heterotopias on the surface of the water. By creating a a new marina and a new area for the Environmental Awareness Center and organizing the different functions on the sea, a new landscape is being created. The form of the structures on the surface of water and the new games that focus on water is conceptualized after the examination of the myths connected to the land and reconnecting them to the new landscape of Nea Kios.
