Next to the shores of the Argolic Gulf is scattered throughout the plain of Argos, the orange grove. It is an important feature of Argos’ area, as it is an important source of income for residents. For The locals the orange is known as ‘’the gold of Argolida’’. The exploitation of this product began in 1948 with the founding of the agricultural cooperation and later of the REA juice factory. In modern times, the factory has been abandoned, but the cooperation still exists. As the landscape changes so do the people and the orange grove is an example of this change.

Rea factory constitutes a protected archaeological site. For that reason the factory program should not serve the interests of an individual or generally be considered as a business. Agricultural activities are not just another occupation but a tradition for Argolis. Orange fruit is a very important product for the inhabitants. Nowadays, young people are starting to abandon agricultural work and turn their attention to cities. The strategy aims to create an area of learning, research and interaction based on the wealth of Argolida, the earth itself. In this way we aim to bring back the interest of young people for the rural economy and activity in order to develop and create new techniques and conditions for better utilization of the plain.
